Swamp Stalkers (UN-B-4139)
Under the leadership of Blythe the group successfully submitted plans for the construction of thirty-two holiday homes.
Within days a local drainage crew were hired and temporary on-site accommodation was promptly set up for the workers.
On April 17th 1971, seventeen workers began the arduous task of draining the swamp.
The reclamation crew worked late until sundown and with the swamp partly drained the workers settled down in their temporary barracks ready to continue their work at first light to ensure they would receive the bonus pay offered for early completion.
But of the seventeen men who fell asleep that night, only four would wake the next morning.
