The Harvester (UN-D-0329)
For safety and defence, small communities began to form on and around the lands of these noblemen.

Those of good standing would pay taxes for living under the protection of the Lords manor and those who could not afford to pay, would work on the land.

In the year 652, Aldfrid, Lord of Legaceaster, was called away from his Midlands manor, to assist in his King's battle against the invading Saxons, who attacked southern England from Germany.

Lord Aldfrid had tasked his bailiff - Osric, the manager of his lands and manor - to ensure that the much-needed taxes were collected in his absence.

Unfortunately for the bailiff filling his lords coffers was to prove a difficult task that year.
