| Book:
( Short for 'The Book of the Unnaturals' ) The collective name for the
records & diaries kept by each person during their time serving as the
Keeper. Every Keeper is required to make detailed notes on every unnatural occurance that takes place during their service. These records have been collected together to form a definitive guide to the supernatural in what we will refer to as the "Book of the Unnaturals". The 'Book' currently consists of over 1270 large bound volumes. top |

| Cruel Ones: Ancient beings that were present at the creation of man. Enemies of humanity's 'Creator' and Earths most ancient evil - the Cruel Ones, have repeatedly throughout history attempted to bring about the self-destruction of mankind. They have used their powers to corrupt individuals to commit actions that will ultimately bring about the downfall of mankind. top |

| Daemon:
A general term for an creature of flesh and blood, born off world / or born to an off world creature, or whose human origins, are changed so much, as to no longer have human characteristics. The term daemon is loosely applied throughout the writing of the book, as lack of knowledge of all daemon species in earlier days prevented total accuracy. A new system of categorization ( 6 levels of unnaturals ) was introduced in 1872, and is still used by Keepers today. top |

Darke Cast: A Darke Cast is a powerful source of magic, the use of which was outlawed by the White Witch Covens of Europe in the late 13th Century. The refusal of some Witches to abide to the law that prevented the use of Darke Casts led directly to the "Darke Cast" crusades at the beginning of the 14th Century. The Unified Council's crusade, to forcibly disband the Darke Cast Covens, lasted 50 years and saw the demise of many of Britain's wisest Witches. (For further information about the Darke Cast crusades see entry Scarecrow - UN-C-418) top |

Devil's Deal: A common name for the trade that takes place between a mortal human and an unnatural being. Typically the unnatural being would offer a gift, service or power in return for an offering from the mortal. This offering might be a test of loyalty i.e. a sacrifice made in the unnaturals honour, a debt to be repaid at the daemon's choosing or something as intangible as possession of the mortal's soul. Traditionally made by earthbound daemons to individual mortals, most often offered in times of personal crisis or war. Once the deal had been successfully concluded, the right to call on the service of the creature would be granted down the male bloodline of that family for several centuries later. top |

| [P] | PADUK: The Paranormal Advisory Department UK was a forward-looking but ultimately ineffective information unit reporting to the British Government on paranormal matters.
Set up in 1949 to gather and collate military and government information on alien and paranormal occurrences, (largely influenced by the United States project 'Blue Book'). PADUK operated out of an undisclosed office in London. PADUK employed a small, but dedicated team with an enlightened and open approach to investigation. They gathered information from a variety of official sources and produced printed reference guides and materials for ministers and senior military leaders - to provide guidance should this information ever be required. However, as the perceived threat from "aliens" receded, and the enemy once again became closer to home, the financing of the department was annually reduced. When one of PADUK's most staunch supporters, Lord Lester Evelyn died in 1984, the death toll for this underestimated department was imminent. The department formally ceased its operations in 1985, due to 'budgetary constraints. Most of the research carried out by the department was archived at the British Library, until a fire in the document storage area, in the summer of 1998 destroyed a large portion of their work. top |
| [P] | Prime
Evil: The categorization
given to the most dangerous of Unnatural creatures. Prime Evil, unlike the other 5 categories, does not denote the origin of the species, but rather the level of threat. A Prime Evil rating, will mean that the Keeper, considers the creature to have immense power with the potential ability to cause extreme devastation on Earth or allied dimensions, and perhaps most importantly, a desire to do so. top |
| Unnatural(s):
The term used by our founders to describe any supernatural or UnGod-like
creature or event. In the records this has been used to cover Daemons, Ghosts,
Beasts, Aliens etc. . top |
