The Crooked Man (UN-C-1732)
On his way to the Old Bailey to stand trial for the murder charge, Gleason made an attempt to escape his guard. This he managed but then ran into the path of a fast moving hansom cab on the busy London street. He was knocked down and died from his injuries at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that it was Tempest's wife, Lizzie who had first contacted Gleason about the possibility of murdering her husband. But that they had fell in love and planned to marry once the contract on her husband had been completed.

Lizzie tempest was arrested and convicted of a 'conspiracy to murder' charge and served 7 years.
